International Network #StopHeimstaden – Netherlands / BPW: Social rent for people not for profit, right to housing now!

The Bomenlandflat has been suffering from a lack of maintenance since real estate giant Heimstaden took control. Annual rent increases are met with indifference to complaints, putting the health and safety of residents at risk. That’s why they’ve joined forces, compiling their grievances in a dossier alongside the Bond Precaire Woonvormen (BPW) and the SP. In 2015, the 180 units were still under the housing corporation Vestia, which sold thousands of social housing units. These properties were handed over to various international real estate investors, ultimately being bought by the Scandinavian Heimstaden. Heimstaden plans to continue to extensively privatize and sell social housing in the Netherlands. Public housing is not a commodity! Residents are the victims of this housing policy: rents become unaffordable and inaccessible, and social housing deteriorates. The Residents‘ Association Bomenlandflat demands mandate and housing security. Housing is a fundamental right, not a profit scheme. Social housing must return to its intended purpose: proper maintenance, healthy homes, and necessary renovations and sustainability. „That’s why our tenants‘ association, Bomenlandflat, was established, to collectively assert our housing rights.“ Join us and show solidarity against international slumlords! Participate in the Tenant Action on February 22 at 14:00 at Heimstaden (Hoogstraat 265, Eindhoven). Together for housing justice!
